In today's world, with the further development of the knowledge economy and economic globalization, intellectual property has increasingly become the strategic resource for national development and the core element of international competitiveness. It has also become an important support for building an innovation-oriented country and the key for grasping an initiative. Intellectual property in agriculture, as an important part of the intellectual property system, is of great importance to ensure the future development of China as a major agricultural country in the world. However, the sound development of intellectual property in agriculture has to depend on scientific and systematic planning, as well as accurate and timely responding to complicated and changing situation.

In order to integrate the relevant resources and systematically explore the issues related to intellectual property in agriculture, the China Center for Intellectual Property in Agriculture (CCIPA) was officially approved and established by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in June, 2007.

CCIPA, as an academic institution and composed of a number of domestic and international relative institutions and professionals, mainly engages in researches related to intellectual property in agriculture and aims at advancing the discipline, offering useful policy options to governments, intensifying international cooperation, strengthening capacity building and promoting information sharing.
